Day 4 (3/4) Travel to Shanghai

Today we left Beijing and flew to Shanghai. Though it was stressful, things went fairly smoothly. We were over the weight limit on our luggage...rather than a per bag allowance they do it per person. They add it all together and divide by the number of people you have. Our stroller for Suzie put us over but our guide, Jason, talked to them and they showed us mercy and didn’t charge us. We got through security with only a portable battery pack confiscated and shoes can stay on for Chinese security (yay!).

Our flight was delayed about 2 hours. Even though it was only about a 2 hr flight, they served a whole meal- our choice of pork with rice or shrimp with noodles, fruit, yogurt, a shrimp, celery & carrot salad and mochi-like dessert. Arriving in Shanghai was like arriving in Florida, it’s SO humid!! And it was warm today with a high of close to 80. The rest of the week is supposed to only be in the 50's and rainy.

Our hotel here is not nearly as nice as in Beijing. In fact, our first room was just awful. No AC, mini fridge didn’t get cold, it’s smelled of smoke and we could open the windows despite being on the 12th floor but that lets in smog and more smoke, but the worst was the floor was filthy! With Suzie crawling it would be horrible. Thankfully our guide, Savor, got us moved to a better room. Much cleaner, smells better and on the 28th floor. Oh and the pool is closed for renovations 😖.

I didn’t take many pictures today while traveling but I did get one of some Chinese New Year decorations. They are starting to take them down now but the streets of Beijing were all lined with red lanterns. On a different note, some of the clothing we see here is hilarious! I saw a girl wearing a shirt that said Acne! It’s hard to get pics but we’ll be trying!
