Day 2 (3/2) Tienanmen Square

Visited Tienanmen Square and the Forbidden City, rickshaw ride to lunch at a local’s home, tea ceremony, swimming in the hotel pool (swim caps required) and dinner at a nearby mall. There are 4 CCAI families here at the hotel touring together. Jet lag is hitting us hard so we had to bribe Mason with a DQ Blizzard to get him to wake up for dinner 😊

After we got settled at our hotel we got some sleep and got ready for a few days of site-seeing. First up was Tienanmen Square and the Forbidden City. Our guide Jason was great, giving us a great tour. The Forbidden City was very big, much bigger than we anticipated, and very beautiful. It was awesome to imagine how many people had stood inside these walls for so many years.

It did take long for us to draw attention with our blonde hair. The kids were asked to take pictures with a few different families which was pretty funny to see.

After Tienanmen Square we took rickshaw rides to a local family's house for lunch. Our group gathered in their dining room. The hosts brought out plate after plate of food, it was amazing! The dining room was adorned with many pictures of pigeons so we asked about the pictures and it turns out the family was into competitive pigeon racing and the pictures were of winning pigeons. Pretty crazy.

Our last adventure was a tea house where we had a traditional tea ceremony. We got to taste a few different teas and learned about some of the history behind tea drinking in China.

Locals taking pics of the blondes. Kids are not complaining.
